Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa, often called the “Pearl of Africa” for its lush green landscapes, lakes, and mountain ranges. It sits along the equator and is fed by major waterways, including Lake Victoria—one of the sources of the Nile River.
Modern Uganda gained independence from Britain in 1962, and today it’s known for its rich cultural diversity, with dozens of ethnic groups and languages (English and Swahili are widely used, alongside many local languages).
For coffee lovers, Uganda is one of Africa’s important coffee producers—especially known for coffees grown in high-elevation regions where cool nights and fertile soils help create a sweet, complex cup. Many Ugandan coffees are produced by smallholder farmers, and you’ll often find flavors that lean floral and chocolatey with dark fruit notes—a smooth, approachable profile that feels both comforting and unique.
