God Promises: He Will Never Leave You

DEUTERONOMY 31:6  |  HEBREWS 13:5

📖

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you."

— Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)

"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'"

— Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
💡

You were never meant to carry this alone — and here's the thing: you never have been. The promise isn't that God will show up when you finally get it together. It's that He has never once stepped away. Not in your worst season. Not in your most broken moment. Not even when you stopped looking for Him. He has always been there — and He always will be.

🌱
"You can't wander far enough to outrun a God
who promised He'd never let you go."

Moses spoke Deuteronomy 31:6 to a people standing at the edge of the unknown — about to cross into a land they had never seen, without the leader who had guided them for 40 years. They were terrified. And God's answer wasn't a battle plan or a guarantee of easy days ahead. His answer was simply: I will be with you.

That's still His answer today. Not "here's how it all works out." Not "here's your timeline." Just — I am with you. The writer of Hebrews quotes this same promise again centuries later because it doesn't expire. It wasn't just for Israel crossing the Jordan. It's for you, right now, in whatever you're facing that feels too wide to cross alone.

"Before the day crowds in — this quiet moment with your cup is a picture of what God offers every morning. His presence, unhurried, waiting."

There's something about a quiet morning with a warm cup that feels like the closest thing to stillness most of us get. Before the noise. Before the demands. Before the weight of the day settles in.

Sit here for a moment. Look around. You are not alone in this room, in this season, in this struggle. The God who spoke galaxies into existence is present in this ordinary morning — in this chair, in this silence, in this cup.

He didn't promise a life without hard things. He promised something better: a Companion who never checks out. One who doesn't grow tired of showing up for you. Take a sip. Let that settle before anything else does today.

1
Speak the promise out loud today.
There is power in saying it. Not just reading it — saying it. Before you leave your house, speak Deuteronomy 31:6 aloud over whatever you're walking into. "The Lord my God goes with me. He will never leave me." Let your own ears hear it.
2
Identify the lie you've been believing.
Loneliness and abandonment often come from a lie — "God has forgotten me," "I'm too much," "I've gone too far." Write down the specific lie. Then write Hebrews 13:5 next to it. The Word of God is the only thing strong enough to displace a lie that's been living rent-free in your mind.
3
Practice the presence — start with two minutes.
Before you pick up your phone tomorrow morning, sit quietly for two minutes and simply acknowledge: "God, You are here." No agenda. No prayer list. Just awareness of His presence. This practice, done consistently, rewires how you move through the day.
4
Pass this promise to someone who needs it today.
Think of one person in your life who is walking through loneliness, grief, or a season where they feel forgotten. Send them this post. Text them Deuteronomy 31:6. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is remind someone else of a promise they've lost sight of. God's presence multiplies when we share it.
